I VITICOLTORI

I VITICOLTORI was created to give a single identity to the passion of a family that, for over three generations, has been a key player in the excellence of Italian winemaking. A project deeply rooted in tradition while constantly looking toward the future, with the aim of telling the story of Italian wine through different territories, identities, and visions united by the same production philosophy.

Today, under this shared identity, several distinct yet complementary realities coexist: Poggio Le Volpi, a symbol of the refinement and power of the Castelli Romani; Masca del Tacco, an emblem of the strength and brightness of Southern Italy, with intense and sun-filled wines born in the heart of Puglia; together with a constellation of labels that tell Mediterranean stories with a contemporary taste: Baglio Onuri, Epicuro, Faunus, IN ME, Gran Appasso, Masseria Trajone, Nero Grande, Urbe Aeterna.

The group’s estates now extend across more than 600 hectares of vineyards, spread between Lazio and Puglia—two territories deeply connected to the culture of wine and the agricultural vocation of the Mediterranean. Here, wines are born that combine ancient roots with a contemporary sensibility, authentic expressions of landscapes, soils, and traditions.

I VITICOLTORI is therefore much more than a brand: it is a shared vision, a collective story made of land, work, and passion, where every bottle becomes the meeting point between family heritage, territorial identity, and a continuous pursuit of quality.

Poggio le volpi

Roma DOC Riserva

Riserva del Roma DOC Poggio Le Volpi represents our highest expression of the denomination.
The Montepulciano, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot grapes come from the same vineyards as the Roma vintage wine, but only the finest clusters are selected for its production.
After this meticulous selection, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing for approximately one year in barriques of different uses. Produced in very limited quantities, it aspires to become a benchmark for the denomination and the flagship wine of the winery. A wine with a bright, deep, and intense colour, marked by dark and mineral aromatic notes, and by the expressive aromatic strength of the grape varieties that compose its blend.

MASCA DEL TACCO

Piano Chiuso Riserva

Near Manduria stands a residence from another era, surrounded by ancient bush-trained Primitivo vineyards over 70 years old, enclosed by a dry-stone wall. In France, some of the finest vineyards are traditionally enclosed by walls or stone boundaries; in the past, Cistercian monks would divide or enclose vineyard parcels when, by literally tasting the soil, they sensed changes in its mineral composition. The fruit from these “enclosed” vineyards — known as Clos — would therefore express distinctive qualities, becoming the purest expression of that specific micro-soil. Drawing inspiration from this tradition, Felice Mergé became the driving force behind the “enclosed vineyard” project, focusing on a very small area through the creation of a new wine: Primitivo di Manduria Riserva “Piano Chiuso”, the highest expression of a territory whose origins are still largely undiscovered.
POGGIO LE VOLPI

Donnaluce

A wine dedicated to women, featuring on the label a cameo, an ancient brooch once worn by aristocratic ladies. In the glass it shows a bright straw-yellow colour; on the nose, it offers intense aromatic notes of apricot and peach, lychee and Chinese mandarin, lavender, yellow flowers and honey, hazelnut, all complemented by a savoury, saline minerality. Soft and sensual on the palate, it is captivating in its fruity expression, well supported by freshness and sapidity, with a long, persistent finish on fruity notes and a subtle almond-like nuance. A highly versatile wine, excellent as an aperitif with finger food, or paired with raw seafood appetizers, spicy dishes from Asian cuisine, tempura and sushi, spaghetti with clams and bottarga, citrus and vegetable risottos, and fresh goat cheeses.

A visual journey through vineyards, wineries, and moments that tell our story every day.
“We sailed the wine-dark sea to meet foreign peoples.” – Homer
This quote, celebrating the Mediterranean as a place of exchange and cultural cross-pollination, is the guiding concept behind our project. Lazio and Puglia, the lands where our wineries were born, have long been crossroads of stories, cultures, and flavors. Here we cultivate our idea of wine: a universal language, capable of bringing past and future together.
