The story of Poggio Le Volpi is the beating heart of the Mergè family and traces its origins back to 1920, when the family began producing wine and olive oil in the Castelli Romani. Since then, four generations have transformed that passion into a solid and forward-looking reality. In 1996, the Poggio Le Volpi agricultural estate was founded in Monte Porzio Catone, an area with an ancient winemaking vocation, shaped by fertile volcanic soils and an ideal microclimate. Here, chestnut woods, old pathways, and rural memories meet a modern, conscious approach to viticulture. It is here that tradition is renewed, blending nearly a century of experience with cutting-edge techniques to create wines that tell the story of Lazio with authenticity and a contemporary style.

Vineyards and grape varieties

The vineyards of Poggio Le Volpi extend across south-facing slopes, with volcanic soils rich in minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, and sulfur, which lend the wines sapidity, freshness, and longevity.
Native Lazio grape varieties take center stage: Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia di Candia, Bombino, and Trebbiano for the whites, and Montepulciano for the reds, alongside carefully selected plantings of Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
The natural balance between exposure, altitude, and ventilation allows for slow, complete ripening of the grapes, preserving aromatic richness and the distinctive character of the territory.

Winemaking philosophy

The philosophy of Poggio Le Volpi is the same that has guided the Mergè family for four generations: enhancing typicity without compromising technical excellence. Vineyard work is meticulous — selective pruning, low yields, and hand harvesting — and is paired with a modern cellar where every stage is precisely controlled.
Innovation serves tradition: temperature-controlled fermentations, carefully calibrated ageing, and an experienced team make it possible to craft wines that speak the language of the volcanic soils of the Castelli Romani, while expressing an elegant, international personality.

This is the cradle of the Mergè vision: deep roots and an open toward the future.
